My mac is sick.... and I hate this PC i'm using..

almost a month since my last post.. i knew I probably wouldn't keep up with this thing.. but i'll try again..

I switched to a mac last june.. no biggie.. I'm not a mac snob by any stretch -- they are all just tools after all, it's what you do with them that's important ;) However, my hard drive went bad on the mac and I have to send it in to get repaired (yes, macs break too.. in fact it uses the same seagate hard drive that probably exists in millions of PC laptops..) In the interim, i am using a brand new Dell Laptop..

This thing is so slow, it's not even funny.. and it's not the speed of the computer, it's all the crap that is going on underneath.. There are at least 20 layers of security checks between windows and the browser and 3rd party apps, i'm not able to get to anything online at all.. it's all at a snail's pace. All of this effort I assume is to keep spy/mal/bad/virusware out of the system.. unfortunately, it still leaks through..

Oh well.. I just have to put up with it for a week or so and i'll get my macbook back. Never thought I would get that enthused about a laptop, but the macbook is by far the nicest, most productive system I have ever used.. I take back every bad thing I ever said about macs over the years :)

This was a pretty geeky post to come back on.. I'll post something funnier tomorrow.. i promise..

In Raleigh for a long weekend..

actually in both senses of the word. We're in raleigh this weekend bisiting my wife's sister and her family.. and we both have 3 kids, staggered by about 6 months.. starting at 2.5 up through 6 years old.. We're outnumbered! We're also here for an extra couple of days, so therein lies the long weekend..

Our story of the trip so far is our dog.. we didn't want to spend the money to have her boarded so we brought her with us? she was perfect in the car except for the ink pen she chewed up, got all over herself, the floor and dyed her tongue blue.. other than that she has been a perfect traveling pet.

Tuck has embraced the concept of "are we there yet" wholly this weekend.. asking roughly every 5-10 minutes if we were closer and what time would we be there.. Further supports my theory that they should offer cars with an optional plexiglass separator that the driver can roll up at any time, like in a limo. :) now who wouldn't pay good money for something like that..

We Will Rock You

My son and one of his good friends jamming together.. Tuck has been playing the drums since he was about 16 mo old.. His legs are finally long enough to reach the pedals so he is now officially licensed to buture classic songs like the rest of did in our various bands growing up :) I was actually pretty impressed though, they had a plan, worked it out, played it and it didn't turn out half bad for a couple of 5 year olds..

Small World

This week has been one of those times where you feel that the world is incredibly small and interconnected.. I've met several new people only to find that we all have common friends, have worked for the same people, or have otherwise crossed paths in the past.

The first incident was when we met our new neighbor. He came over to give us some soup and say welcome to the neighborhood, and we were chit chating -- he asked what I did for a living and I tried as I always do to somehow say that i'm in the web development business but without saying that i'm a web designer.. and he actually understood.. The reason he understood is that he works for a local Web/Multimedia outfit as a VP of sales and we know a lot of the same people. Pretty cool.

The next day, we had some new friends over that we know from soccer and church, and I come to find that he used to work for the same company, knew my neighbor and actually had some pretty funny stories about him so it all comes back around.

I'd better get off here. Dora is almost over and my little 2 year old will be demanding my attention once more..

First Post...

Obligatory first post..

This post will suck, this post will be cliche.. but everyone has to have a first post and this is mine.. so there..

with that over with I can start posting things that actually matter :)
